Congregational Care

How long have you been a member at CSPC? Why did you join? I have been a member of CSPC for 40 years. When I first moved here, I had a dental hygiene patient who, during discussion, asked me if I was a Presbyterian. When I said “yes,” he invited me to his church, CSPC.  Not knowing my way around Northern KY, I did not find his church. Well, six months later, when he returned for a dental visit, he stated that I had not been to his church! Having grown up in a very large Presbyterian church, I could not understand how he knew that. Since I had not found a church that was a good fit for me, finally I did find CSPC. My first visit was so memorable since I met half of the congregation, and I felt very welcomed. The friendly feeling made me want to be a part of such a warm and special congregation. I saw that there was a place for me, in which I was encouraged to get involved.

Do you have a favorite hymn or praise song? What makes it your favorite? My favorite hymn is “Here I Am, Lord.” When I was a single adult, I felt like I needed more in my life. I had a stable job, friends and hobbies, but something was missing. So, I prayed for God to take my life and use me in whatever way he needed me. That was a powerful thing to think and pray, since I was aware that I could not say that to any human being, but my trust and faith in God allowed me to state that with confidence. Every time I hear this song, I rededicate my life again.

What committee do you serve on, and what is it doing to build up CSPC as the body of Christ? I am chairperson of the Congregational Care committee. This committee supports the congregation in many different ways by providing meals to the sick, visiting our shut-ins and members,  pastoral care when needed, and fellowship events, such as potluck meals. When we eat, work, play, and pray together it makes us part of the community of Christ. By doing things together, our congregation gets to know each other and enjoy being a community of faith. We feel the love of Christ and can share and spread that love on to others.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I am a person with many hobbies. I enjoy being home with my husband, and our extended families are an important part of our lives. I enjoy cooking, baking and entertaining friends. I try to keep up with friends, as well as make new ones. I love gardening, and would rather spend time outdoors. I enjoy snow skiing as often as I can. It is relaxing, exhilarating, and very peaceful. I have been painting  for most of my adult life; I started in oils, then acrylics, and a few watercolors. I guess what I enjoy is the sense of accomplishment.

Bonus! Pastor’s Bragging Rights: Becky is a treasure–generous, good-hearted, and abundantly gifted. She is always ready to pitch in wherever it’s needed, and her desserts are to die for! I am so grateful for her presence on Session and her leadership of the Congregational Care Committee. She is a true rock of the church, and exemplifies the Spirit’s fruit of faithfulness!
