    Green Tips: Rain Barrels

November 13, 2024 Blog No Comments

“Sing to the Lord with Thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre.  He covers the heavens with clouds, prepares rain for the earth, makes grass grow on the hills.”  Psalm 147:7-8

Ever thought of attaching a rain barrel to your downspout to collect rainwater that can be used later and help the earth? Collected rainwater can be used to water gardens and indoor and outdoor plants. You could also use the water for washing your car, patio furniture, windows, or your dog.  It can also be added to your compost to keep it moist. Rain barrels reduce storm runoff, which is a problem in urban and suburban areas, polluting waterways with fertilizer and pesticides. They can also help reduce soil erosion.  They come in many shapes and sizes and can play a small but important role in sustainability and water conservation.
