Green Tips: Plastics Free July

July 23, 2024 Blog No Comments

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121)

Are you aware that around the world there is a challenge called “Plastics free July?”  The aim is to give up single use plastics for a day, a week, a month or longer.  You could also choose to reduce just one of the single use plastics you use like coffee cups, straws, grocery bags, fruit and veggies in plastic, soaps and detergents, or ? (insert your single use plastic).  For me, most of my single use plastic waste comes from buying dog treats – the soft kind for my senior pups.  So I looked up a recipe for soft dog biscuits – this one has peanut butter and carrots.

Even if you can recycle the plastic in your Hefty Renew bags, it is better not to use it in the first place as plastic never truly goes away.

Think about it. Why would you make something that you’re going to use for a few minutes out of a material that’s basically going to last forever, and you’re just going to throw it away. What’s up with that?
